A Day with Rachel

I think that my day with Rachel Skiba deserves a whole blog post because it was so very interesting and unique.

I arrived at Rachel’s house at 8:30 AM and the first thing that we did, was to make ourselves some breakfast. Since I am supposed to have yogurt because I am on antibiotics, I had just planned to walk down to the store with her and get some, but they had some there, which made it rather easy for me. Therefore, I had a yogurt and an egg for breakfast. After breakfast, we trudged up to her room in order to lie on her bed, eat gummy bears, and talk. After talking for a while, she showed me all her pictures on her camera. Directly following that, we trudged back downstairs and sat in her parents’ bedroom and looked at all the pictures that had once been on her camera but were now on her computer. Since we were already in the picture-looking-at mood, we searched for pictures on her computer (that had not been on her camera) under keywords that I especially liked. We printed off a page of those for me to take home (it just so happens that I forgot it anyways). During this entire exchange, I got to meet Hugo and Mac, who were friends of Rachel. They were actually pretty cute, if I do say so myself. Hugo was by far my favorite and I think he kinda liked me. :D Also, during the entire time we were on the computer, we listened to amazingly beautiful, and heart wrenching music (take for instance, Wicked). After the pictures, she let me read a story of hers that was on the computer. We then asked her dad if we could walk down to QD, which he granted permission for. Even as we walked there, we could feel the need for sugar and hyperness. Upon leaving, it was most likely an amusing sight for any passerby, as they would have seen to teenager girls walking out of QD with both of their hands full. One hand was tightly gripping a Death by Chocolate ice. cream cone, while the other contained a 44 oz. slushie. She got Blue Raspberry and I got a mixture of Cherry, Blue Raspberry and Mt. Dew. We arrived back at her house, and finished as much of the dishes as was possible, before once again obtaining permission from Mr. Skiba and walking down the street to a park nearby. In all honesty, we completely lost track of time and spent close to two hours down there. We talked the majority of time, when we weren’t making ourselves completely dizzy by spinning on the little stand-on-this-weird-circle-type-thing-and-put-your-hands-on-this-thing-above-your-head-and-then-you-just-automatically-spin-round-and-around-and-you-can’t-stop thingamabob. That and the pokey merry-go-round (where we lay for a while and tanned) were about the only things that we went on. Oh, and there was that spiral thing that we attempted to actually slide down on “the right way”. After that, she discovered the water fountains and in due time, found out that one of them sprays far into the air. She played in the water for a decent amount of time while I lay on a bench and tried to regain my absent brain (I don’t recall it ever being regained). We both sat down together after that and had a long, but fruitful conversation that was based upon religion and politics. I am very glad that we did it, because it helped me apply all the things that I had just learned in evening church, the Sunday before. Also, it let me brush up on my “debating” skills. Her dad finally drove by on his way to work and told us to get back to the house, because we had been gone for so long. As we hustled back, we wondered if we were in any trouble. As far as I know of right now, we didn’t. Anyways, as we arrived at the house, we did a few chores around the house including some laundry type thing, and the dishes. After the dishes were finished, we engaged in the mind-boggling sport of how to make your own bubbles with your hands. She taught me the arts and I sort of caught on (actually Rachel, if you’re reading this, know this: Last night after I got home, I went to the downstairs bathroom and I practiced! I actually did get four decent sized bubbles, although I think the soap was weird). Directly after the bubble-blowing lesson, we trudged up the stairs to the girls’ room (I have been using the word ‘trudged’ to describe our trips up and down their stairs, because with stairs like theirs you can’t run or skip or hop or anything…you must always trudge. While we were upstairs, we were joined by the flock of her younger sisters. We finished our gummy bears, and then had a tickling session (where most of the girls were tickled because they wanted to be). Following this, was dinner time…and so, we all trudged back downstairs. For dinner, we had chicken and broccoli with gravy over it. I really enjoyed it. After that, I gathered my things, and my dad picked me up.

After we came home, I cleaned up a bit and got “settled” in my real home, before sitting down with the majority of my family to watch “Unbreakable” (good movie).

Thank you all, for reading…as always, it is *much* appreciated.

Latest

Let’s see…when was the last time I actually wrote? I want to say that it was Wednesday, but I’m not positive.

Anyways, Thursday the 12, I worked in the morning for the Harns. I biked there, worked for a few hours and then biked back. It wasn’t too far, just down the road. I had fun with Jasmine, and I got some stuff to put on my wall finally. As of right now, it looks very nice with my bookshelf up, and my bed made, and my stuff all over the wall, and my picture hanging up. Then, that evening, my brother and I went to see Inception in town while the others were at the concert at the courthouse. That was a pretty good movie. I liked it a lot and wanted to go see it right away.

Friday the 13, I worked around the house for most of the day, before my mom dropped me off at the McAtees to help Mrs. Jane clean the house for L’Abri that night. Anna was gone for the day and Laura had her company up: Josh, Rosie, and Caleb. So I cleaned there for a few hours and then once we were done, everyone began to arrive. I really enjoyed the topic that night.

Saturday the 14th, I cleaned the house major time. Jon was away at the Demmer Center and my dad worked over at the Wood’s with their siding. Rachel, Becca and my mom went up to the Folk Festival. I was planning to go up later with Mommy and Pastor, but that didn’t work out. So I stayed home and cleaned! I was gonna also go out and watch a movie with some other friends, but that didn’t work out either.

Sunday the 15th was good too. I don’t think I went to church that morning…I think I was sick. That evening, after church, I went to see Inception again with Aimee, Rebecca, and Liz. That was super good! Sadly, I pretty much ruined it for Aimee…but it was completely accidental! After that, we went out and got food at Wendy’s.

Monday the 16th, I had work in the morning for a few hours. I watched the two girls plus the boys. It can get hectic sometimes when I watch the girls too. It’s not that I don’t enjoy them, because I do, it’s just that they can be very demanding sometimes and they don’t like it when I have to say “no.” Sometimes I just have to…but I do love gratifying their wishes because their faces get so happy! Also, I had a Dr’s appointment that day for some cough I’ve had for a while. We don’t exactly know what it is…he said that it might be bacteria of some kind in my lung, or maybe some sort of pneumonia (I don’t remember the exact name). So he gave me an antibiotic for that and sent me down to have a chest x-ray. That night, my mom, Rachel and Jon went to Brigadoon rehearsal and Becca and I stayed home cuz my dad went golfing.

Tuesday, I don’t exactly remember what I did…I don’t think anything though. Probably just rested I think.

Wednesday, I had work in the morning from 9:30-12:30 with all four kids again. That wasn’t too bad this time. Then, in the afternoon, I worked at Mr. Nightengale’s fruit/veggie stand from 1-6. That was pretty good…I got some reading in besides getting to actually sit down and “relax.” Then, my dad picked me up and we went home. I don’t remember what we did that night though.

Thursday, Rachel and Jon picked blueberries while Becca was at the Eilerts taking a string lesson. I was at home cleaning again. When they got back, I had to wash and dry and freeze them. Then, later that day, my mom and Becca went out and picked more blueberries. I think that we have about 35 lbs of blueberries that are now in our freezer. I want to say that it’s about 12-14 quarts. Jon also had to go work at the farm for a bit.

Friday, was another day of cleaning and relaxing when I had time. Jon had a horn lesson with Mr. Butler and then he went to work again. Rachel and I dropped him off and then called Aimee to see if she wanted to do anything. She was busy for about an hour, so we went home and did random stuff until it was time to go out and meet up with her. So we got a movie at the library and then went to pick up Jon and then we got pizza in town before heading back home. There, we ate the pizza (along with fresh baked cookies that I baked the day before or so), and watched “The Confessions of a Shopaholic.” That was actually a really good movie. I really enjoyed it.

Saturday, was spent doing chores and jobs and catching up on anything that was behind. My dad and Jon went out to do some errands and stuff and my mom was at Farmer’s Market for most of the day. When they all got back, we headed out to go to the Marten’s for the church picnic. It was just us for a while before the McAtees showed up. Then, we called the Timmis family and they came out too. After playing for a while, we sat around the bonfire, and then it was time to go home. Libby came over to spend the night. That was immensely fun. We got home late, but stayed up even later to watch “No Reservations.” I’d already seen it twice, but it was still fun to sit on the couch downstairs and eat cookies with the “big girls.” I slept on the couch that night, so Libs could sleep in my bed.

Sunday, we all headed off to church with Libby. I really *really* enjoyed the sermon there. I took lots of notes and will probably post them sometime. Then, we came home and my mom and Rachel worked on transposing some music while I watched “The Sixth Sense.” That was kinda spooky, but I think that there were others *looks around the room pointedly* who were a bit more spooked than I was! Evening church came around and that was great fun also! I don’t know why but over the past year, I have begun to enjoy going to church and taking notes and learning and actually understanding so much more than I did for anything else! Then, when we got home, a lady named Cecelia came over to hear us, because she hired us to play for her wedding this coming Saturday. I think she liked us. After she left, the McAtees came over to play some games and to talk. I didn’t stick around long. I did the dishes and then headed off to bed cuz I was pretty tired.

Today, I was gonna work, but things worked out so I didn’t have to. Instead, I think I will be getting off here soon so I can super clean the house! Tonight, my dad is golfing again while my mom, Rachel and Jon are away at Brigadoon rehearsal so Becca and I will be here again. Maybe I will watch the movie “Unbreakable” while they’re gone.

Tomorrow, I hope to spend time with Rachel Skiba if my mom will let me go. She’s been threatening to not let me go anywhere till I’m all better, but I did go to the church picnic and church and evening church, and I have been kinda active lately, so maybe…hopefully, she’ll let me go. My dad will go golfing that night too, so maybe he could just pick me up when he’s done.

Wednesday, I am supposed to have another Dr.’s appointment for some sort of a follow-up, but I think it’ll end up with some sort of a new antibiotic. Rachel is thinking that I am lacking iron and protein, but I refuse to be treated by her “voodoo” ways…I know how they normally end so I won’t even start it. Also, I am supposed to be working that day, but am unsure of what time to be there.

And that’s all for now! Thanks for reading!

Yea....

Hey all...I promise to get something written on here sometime soon!

PHEW!

Ok, I realize that I haven’t written on here for a while, but I really do have a good excuse…how about, I’m busy?? Yes, that’s it…because I have been! Honestly! I have not been home for over 6 hours since Monday, August 2. And here it is, August 13, quite a bit later. Ah well, life can get hectic.

Tuesday, August 3 – I spent the whole day at Rachel Skiba’s house…I think I already have a post on this.

Wednesday, August 4, I had work for the best part of the day. Then, I filled it with reading books and cleaning my “room” and so forth. (I think I need to mention at this point that while I was away at Blue Lake, my family totally made my room look like the best thing ever happened to it. They painted the walls a light shade of pink, and made the floors wood (which has been my dream) and made it all spacey by simply moving everything I owned out to the basement floor.)

Thursday, August 5 – This was spent working the first part of the day and then going down/working at Kzoo’s Comstock for Secret Garden. I don’t remember much, but I know that that night STINKED.

Friday, August 6 – this was the day of our show in Kzoo. This night went decently well, but I sort of had a breakdown half way through it.

Saturday, August 7 – This was our last show and as such, it was kinda hard. The show went marvelously however. After I had done the “old people’s” hair and makeup, I used the extra leftover hair spray to dye my hair a dark brown/black color. It was actually pretty cool. Then Libby put on some really heavy eye-liner so I looked emo. We drove Nathan and Josiah there and back, as well as taking Aimee back too (she just got back from Florida that day). Strike took forever and a day but we finally got out of there at about 1 am. We headed over to Perkins for the after-party. Didn’t leave there till 2 which meant we got home after 3am (we had to drop everyone off at home).

Sunday, August 8 – We had church bright and early in the morning. After church, we left and went up north to Byrom where I got to see Bethy and her little girl Bella Rose at her baby shower! That was a fun afternoon (a tad boring however).

Monday – I was at CPAC for the good part of the day. I got up and my dad dropped me off there and dropped Becca off at the track with my mom. I helped check all the little boys and girls in for Aristocats. Then, I hung out with friends. There were *so* many people I knew who were trying out!! Anyways, so then, I had my auditions from about 1:30-5:30. Then, my mom rushed me home. That night it was just Becca and I at home. My dad was golfing with work people and my mom, Rachel, and Jon were at their first Brigadoon rehearsal for some Holt group who is putting it on. So she watched movies and I fixed dinner and then baked some molasses cookies. That was a long and tiring evening for the both of us, I think. Just stress from all the auditions that day.

Tuesday – was spent at Rachel’s again. We cleaned out the back yard and the front yard and then tore out their downstairs bathroom. After that, at about 4:30, we headed out to play some glow-mini-golf (I’ve never played at all). I scored 60 out of a possible 54 (which I don’t think is too bad for a first time, right??). Then, we went over to Beaners and got coffees! :D Then, we went back to their friend’s house where they’re living at the moment. We stayed there for a few hours and played some random (and not so random) games. We played Pictionary, and MASH, and then some sort of a find-the-duck-right-now-or-you’re-dead game with Mary. That was a fun time. Then, Mrs. Skiba said that my dad called and would pick me up at Horrocks at 9:30. So I spent 13 hours with her. We’re planning on having her come down to my place next Tuesday, but we’re unsure of how it will work.

Wednesday – I had work starting bright and early in the morning!! I stayed there for probably half the day. Then, I came home and began to “move” back in my room. I also got a chance to pull out my viola and dust it off and play with it for a little while.

Yesterday – I worked again in the morning. Then, I came home and made a good effort to bring stuff back in my room. It looks very cozy now. Well, at least my part of the room does at least. Last night, I went and saw Inception with my brother at the theater in town. I really like it even if it does mess with your mind a lot!!

Today, I will be cleaning and working and mowing and such. Also, L’Abri is tonight, so I’ll probably go early and offer to help Mrs. Jane clean for it. Thanks for reading, faithful followers!

Lately

Wednesday, I had work for about 6 hours. That was very hectic and I left feeling like I had just faced giants.

Thursday, was boring in the morning. But then in the afternoon, we headed out to Kzoo again to have a tech run for Secret Garden. Wow, it was really bad. Everything went bad that could go bad. Got home late from that…late enough for me to wish I was in bed.

Yesterday, my mom and Becca were gone to Morrice for most the morning for string lessons. Then, when they got back, my mom took us to the Timmis’s house and they took us to Kzoo for a show for Secret Garden. Ok, so let me tell you. I totally failed. The curtain went wrong *again*. I don’t know what it is but the curtain is just not working for me. Also, all the people I do makeup and hair for…it just wasn’t looking right. I couldn’t fix it to look just right. So anyways…that was an epic fail.

Today I hope will go better. We leave in a little while for it again. Tonight will be SUPER late cuz we have strike and then we’re going out for a party afterwards. I really hope that we can take our van down so that we can stay out late…oh yea, and we’ve got church in the morning…haha, well, let’s see how that works.

Monday, we’ve got HPA auditions, which I am super excited for!

Tuesday, I’m not sure what’s going on…and Wednesday, I work from 7:30 am-???

That’s all for now…signing off!

Rachel S.

Tuesday, my dad took me to Rachel Skiba’s house early in the morning…well, about 8:30 or so. She showed me around and then we went and did their laundry at the Laundromat around the corner. While we were there, we got donuts and slushies for breakfast. Then we went back to their house and sat there for a while. And then her dad took us to Home Depot for his errands and we began to plan out a house while we were there. We got sooo many different paint sample cards and booklets it was hysterical! Then we went to MSU just to look around at something there and then to another Home Depot where we got even *more* paint stuff and some floor stuff and finished picking out appliances and stuff. Then we went back to her place where we watered the flowers and washed the dishes in their bathtub. Then we just sat around and ate ice. cream for lunch. Then we sat down at the ping pong table and took up one whole half of it with all of our house stuff. And there we not only planned a basement, but a 1st, 2nd, and attic for our house. Then we convinced Rebekah to take us to coffee at Beaner’s down the road…and we got espresso shots for the first time! Haha, that was different. Then we got really super hyper and headed back to her house and then took…hmm…about 8 videos of us just goofing off. Then we went outside to take pictures, but my dad came to pick me up. All in all, it was an amazing day. I haven’t laughed that hard in…a long time. It reminded me of Blue Lake…just laughing and laughing. But this time it was at NOTHING! :D I hope to go back next Tuesday.

Books

Ok, so I know that I have failed miserably in posting what books I have been reading. But the truth is that I haven't had much time till now to actually read anything!! I got back from camp and then hurled myself at Secret Garden.

I am working backstage for Secret Garden put on by Spontaneous Summer Theater down in Kalamazoo. I do all the hair and makeup for the "old" people, I help out with about 7-8 costume changes for the leads during the show, I run errands for the directors, I help out at intermission and at the end with RootBeer floats, and I operate a curtain during the show. So I keep busy and have a lot of fun. So yea, that was Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The shows were on Friday and Saturday.

Sunday, after church, we went up to the lake and spent the day there celebrating birthdays. That was fun. Then we came back in time for evening church.

Today was filled with chores and cleaning. Tonight we're fixing a late anniversery dinner for our parents.

Tomorrow I'm going to Rachel Skiba's house for the ENTIRE day! From about 8:30-9 or so...that's gonna be so much fun!

Wednesday, I have work from 1:30-7:30 and I CAN'T WAIT! :)

Thursday is tech day for Secret Garden...and Friday and Saturday are more shows.

Phew...that's my life. :) I love it!
