Arguments

These are a few arguments that I found throughout various things: newspapers or books. The conclusions I found will be in italics and the premises/reasoning will be normal.

"I think we're far too easy on our children. Halloween's a time when they can feel safe about having the living bejeebers scared out of them. We owe them that so that they'll be better people later on. Scare a child today, make a better adult tomorrow, that's what I say."

"It's definitely your best motorcycling time of year, by a long shot. Up in the north Georgia mountains, you want to be there when the leaves are falling, so you can see around the curves better and you can drive a little more, shall we say, aggressively, without worrying about oncoming automobiles. You want to really do your wailing in the fall."

"American Blue Tip Smokes are a healthier, convenient alternative to cigarettes. Enjoy all of the pleasures of smoking without the stigma. American Blue Tip is so effective as a substitute for cigarettes because it feels like the real thing, providing the authentic smoking experience."

"Let's face it, there are many reason why people love to smoke - it's relaxing, social and therapeutic. More than anything else, smoking used to be fun. Smoking used to provide a certain energy; create a certain buzz. The devastating effects of cigarettes have robbed smokers of all these benefits. With American Blue Tip smokes, you can have all that back."

"Health boost: Reduce the risk of obesity. Researchers from the University of California and University of Washington found that kids ages 4 and under who get less than 10 hours of sleep a night are nearly twice as likely to be overweight or obese five years later; for those ages 4-13, shortened sleep means a higher risk of shifting from normal to overweight or overweight to obese. According to the National Sleep Foundation, children 1 to 3 years old need 12 to 14 hours a night; 3- to 5-year-olds, 11 to 13 hours; 5- to 10-year-olds, 10 to 11 hours; and teens, 8.5 to 9.25 hours. (Adults need seven to nine hours.) A new study in the journal Sleep also found that teenagers who get less than eight hours a night are more likely to consume fatty foods and snacks that put them at risk for obesity."

"I think a writer's notebook is the best way there is to immortalize really bad ideas, whereas the Darwinian process takes place if you don't write anything down. The bad ones float away, and the good ones stay."

"Make two-thirds of every meal fruits, vegetables, beans or grains. No single food can protect you from breast cancer; no single nutrient can ward off colon cancer. But scientists believe it's the combination of vitamins, minerals and phytochemicals in a mostly plant-based diet that work together to help fight cancer. That's one reason experts recommend splitting your plate into two-thirds plant foods, one-third meat. The other: it helps prevent weight gain."

When we introduced the original Acoustic Wave music system, Sounds and Vision said it delivered "possibly the best-reproduced sound many people have ever heard." And the Oregonian reported it had "changed the way many Americans listen to music." With recently developed Bose technologies, our engineers were able to make the acclaimed sound even more natural. We believe you'll appreciate the quality even at volume levels approaching that of a live performance. This small system fits almost anywhere. You can move it from room to room, or take it outside.

"You mean the retired sergeant of Marines?"
"Yes, how did you know he was all that?"
"Even across the street I could see a great blue anchor tattooed on the back of the fellow's hand. That smacked of the sea. He had a military carriage, however, and regulation side whiskers. There we have the marine. He was a man with some amount of self-importance and a certain air of command. You must have observed the way in whihc he held his head and swung his cane. A steady, respectable, middle-aged man, too, on the face of him--all the facts which led me to believe that he had been a sergeant."

"...he and Lestrade are the pick of a bad lot. They are quick and energetic, but conventional - shockingly so."

"...the fingernails of his right hand were remarkably long...""The writing on the wall was done with a man's forefinger dipped in blood. My glass allowed me to observe that the plaster was slightly scratched in doing it, which would not have been the case if the man's nail had been trimmed."

"Singularity is almost invariably a clue. The more featureless and commonplace a crime is, the more difficult it is to bring it home."

"However innocent he might be, he could not be such an absolute imbecile as not to see that the circumstances were very black against him. Had he appeared surprised at his own arrest, or feigned indignation at it, I should have looked upon it as highly suspicious, because such surprise or anger would not be natural under the circumstances, and yet might appear to be the best policy to a scheming man. His frank acceptance of the situation marks him as either an innocent man, or else as a man of considerable self-restraint and firmness."
